Frequently Asked Questions

I’m scared of falling. I’m not even sure if I can handle this course—what should I do?

It’s completely normal to feel nervous about addressing your fear of falling. The good news is that you’ll stay in control throughout the course and only do what feels right for you.

The course emphasizes self-reflection to help you better understand your fear, alongside practical tools to approach fall practice. The goal is to make practice feel slightly uncomfortable but never scary—that’s the most effective and research-backed way to make progress.

Overcoming your fear of falling can significantly improve both your enjoyment and growth as a climber. We encourage you to give it a try, but if the timing isn’t right, don’t worry—there are other courses in your membership that may suit you better. Plus, our membership includes a 14-day money-back guarantee!

I’ve already tried falling practice, and it didn’t work for me. Why is this different?

Many climbers unknowingly practice falling in ways that reinforce their fear instead of reducing it. This course is built on the latest research and proven techniques to ensure your fall practice actually helps.

Unlike some “whipper therapy” programs that take a one-size-fits-all approach, we teach you how to avoid ingraining fear. A key element of this course is understanding your comfort, stress, and panic zones. You’ll learn tools to assess where you are and calm yourself, making gradual fall practice both effective and safe.

Does the course cover bouldering, top rope, and lead climbing?

Yes! The course is designed to address fear of falling across bouldering, top rope, and lead climbing. You’ll find tools and techniques that can be applied to all climbing styles.

What if I don’t have much experience with falling yet?

No problem! This course is designed for climbers of all experience levels. It starts with understanding your fear and building foundational mental skills before introducing fall practice in a gradual, manageable way. You’ll never be asked to take a fall you’re not ready for.

Do I need a climbing partner for this course?

Some exercises involve fall practice, so it’s helpful to have a trusted belayer or climbing partner. If you don’t have one, you can still work through the self-reflection exercises and mental training techniques, which are valuable on their own.

If you do have a climbing partner, it can be very fruitful to go through the course together, discussing the topics as you progress. This course is also relevant for people whose climbing partner is struggling with fear of falling—it provides valuable tools for offering support and encouragement.

I’m really psyched to work on my fear of falling, but my partner doesn’t support me. What should I do?

It’s great that you’re motivated to tackle your fear! If possible, consider inviting your partner to take the course with you. It can help them better understand what you’re working through and how to be a supportive belayer.

If they’re hesitant or don’t realize the impact of their actions, the course also includes tools for you to set boundaries and communicate your needs effectively. Ultimately, this journey is about your growth, and you can still make meaningful progress even if your partner isn’t on the same page yet.

How fast should I pace myself through this course?

The course is designed to be flexible and fit your schedule. It’s divided into modules, each covering specific material, so you can move at your own pace. Whether you want to complete it in a week or spread it out over months, you’re in control. Take the time you need to reflect, practice, and absorb the lessons—it’s all about what works best for you.

What’s different about this training?

The course was created by certified sport psychologists who have worked with climbers for years—and we are passionate climbers as well!

It’s not a one-size-fits-all program—everyone’s fear is different, and we emphasize self-awareness and a variety of tools so you can discover what works best for you. This course combines research-backed methods with personalized approaches to help you truly overcome your fear.

Can I ask questions during the course?

Yes! As a member, you have access to our monthly live Q&A sessions, where you can ask the experts directly, get personalized advice, and hear tips from other climbers.

Can I have a 1-on-1 consultation with a sport psychologist?

The Unblocd membership does not include 1-on-1 consultations, but we’d be happy to provide personalized support for an additional fee. If you’re interested, please contact us at info@unblocd.com. We currently offer consultations in English, German, and Finnish.

Can I keep the course contents after my membership ends?

Access to the course is tied to your membership, so you won’t retain access after it ends. However, you can download the self-reflections, plans, worksheets, and cheat sheets provided during the course to continue your practice independently.

What languages are supported?

At the moment, all of our course content is available in English. If you’d like to see this course in other languages, feel free to share your feedback—we’d love to hear from you!

I’d like to buy only this course. Is that possible?

Access to the course is tied to the Unblocd membership, which gives you much more than just this course. With your membership, you’ll also gain access to a variety of other courses designed to support your mental game, monthly live Q&A sessions with experts, and additional resources to help you grow as a climber.
